MC Lyte was spotted at a Pennsylvania college this week where she not only taught a class, but gave a special shoutout to Nicki Minaj. The legendary female emcee was teaching at Millersville University when the Young Money princess was brought up in the lecture.
Instead of bashing her, like another female rapper famously has, Lyte took the high road and sang her praises to Minaj saying,
“She is a smart business woman. Creatively she is a mesh of sweet tea of MC Lyte, of Salt N Pepa, of Eve, of Kim, of Foxy, of everyone that has existed before. And we all have followed the steps of such great female MCs. There’s no way that I can say that I wasn’t influenced by Salt N Pepa.”
She also made sure to add that despite what others say, Nicki shows respect to the ones who came before and pays homage.
“She gives homage. She’s says she’s been influenced by the female MCs but she’s also been influenced by a certain genre of music that many of us love but never had the guts to put it as a part of our music and that’s pop culture.”
Nicki has since seen the video herself and thanked Lyte on Twitter saying, “@MClyte thanks for the kind words sis.” [Source]
Miami muralist and graphic designer, Jason Seife, linked up with Big Sean and Nicki Minaj to paint the background for their extra bootylicious “Dance (Ass) Remix.” The jam is right up to date with the latest Big Freedia guide-to-twerkin. And the video directors, Mike Waxx and Mike Carson, needed visuals just as fresh.
The duo had worked with Seife before on their ILLROOTS website. But it wasn’t until they saw a piece he had done featuring a majestic gold lion that they started to see the creative light.
We shot Seife some questions to get the scoop on the creative process and just how inspired he was by Nicki Minaj’s badonk.
How much direction did they give you?
Jason Seife: Originally, we were just shooting for the Big Sean version. We shot in Atlanta and did the whole video minus Nicki’s part. I got the call a few days before and Waxx and I went back and forth on Photoshop, making mockups of what we wanted. We made all of the creative decisions ourselves. Big Sean and his people hadn’t even seen the mural until the day of shooting, but they ended up loving it.
While we were shooting in Atlanta, Nicki sent her remix verse so they decided to shoot a second part of the video and make the video actually be for the remix. So a few weeks later we flew to NYC and shot the second half. As for Nicki’s wall, her and her people were a bit more hands on as far as what they wanted/didn’t want, but they still gave me a lot of freedom to do as I pleased. I had a basic mockup of what I wanted to do before hand but it was mainly just shapes and colors, and I kinda freestyled the rest once i got there.
Did you get to meet Nicki Minaj and/or her booty?
I did get to meet her briefly. She was actually very down to earth despite her larger than life persona. She came in, killed her parts, and made my art look a million times better by dancing in front of it! Let’s just say, after having Nicki dance in front of my work, my ass influence has increased quite a bit. [Source]
Nicki Minaj has been branded a ‘temperamental diva’ following an alleged outburst against a beautician. The ‘Super Bass’ hitmaker reportedly launched a verbal tirade against Dawn DaLuise after having her eyebrows and lip waxed. After giving out a tongue lashing, Nicki is claimed to have thrown money at the celebrity facialist and stormed out of her Dawn DaLuise Skin Refinery clinic in Los Angeles.
Dawn told America’s Star magazine: “After I waxed her eyebrows and lip, she started screaming, ‘Who the f–k do you think you are? Look what you did to my damn face! You think this s–t is worth $170?’ It’s a shame when you see a darling girl turn into a temperamental diva.”
Dawn claimed it is not the first time she has witnessed rude behaviour from the 28-year-old rapper.
She recalled: “I arrived at her condo one afternoon, her eyes were dilated, her wig was falling off, her face was covered in red sores and she was perspiring heavily. She was swearing and screaming at her assistant.”
Dawn’s claims come weeks after police were called to Nicki’s house following an argument with her maid.
The music star dismissed one of her workers two weeks before the incident after she took a picture of the singer taking out the rubbish and asked her to sign it and Nicki reportedly mistook a current employee for the woman when she encountered her at home, leading to an altercation.
After the current maid refused to leave, she is said to have told Nicki that she would not be ‘treated like an animal’ while the 28-year-old star replied “I’ll show you how to treat someone like an animal … get the f–k out of my house!”
Nicki’s boyfriend – who is thought to be her assistant Safaree Samuels – then reportedly pushed the woman before police were called by her boss.
A battery report was also filed although no arrests were made at the scene. [Source]
