Nicki Minaj sat down with MTV News last week and informed them that she would not be following fellow Idol judge Keith Urban’s notion to perform on the show.
Speaking to MTV News: ‘I think kudos to Keith for doing it, but I just don’t know if I want to wear that hat there,’
“All of these kids that are left right now, I don’t want to see any one of them go now,” Minaj told MTV News during “MTV First: Nicki Minaj.” “To be completely honest, I feel they could all go out and make an album right now and be successful around the world. And also, they put in work, they put in a lot of work and they deserve to be there. I think that’s what makes me happy. The people we have left deserve to be there.”
“Burnell has a real R&B soulful John Legend voice to me. I could completely see myself doing a song with Burnell,” Minaj said. “Kree [Harrison] and Janelle, I see them doing more country, so I don’t know how that would work, but to be honest, I would work with any of them.”
While Minaj is open to working with the contestants, there is one thing she may be opposed to while on “Idol” — performing. The Young Money rapper revealed that even though performing her new single, “High School” with Lil Wayne would be “dope,” she, unlike fellow judge Keith Urban, who took the stage last week, is still unsure if judging and performing mix.”
“I don’t know if I want to wear the performer hat on ‘Idol,’ ” Minaj said. “I think kudos to Keith for doing it, but I just don’t know if I want to wear that hat there.”
Count on Nicki Minaj to turn more than a few heads on the red carpet. In a new envelope-pushing look for her, the always outrageous Nicki channeled high fashion and religion in a strange way on tonight’s Grammy red carpet. Nicki rocked a deep red Versace cloak, covering more skin than she usually does, which offset her glowing fresh-faced makeup. Hip-hop’s Little Red Riding Hood was in the building. Even more eyebrow-raising was her choice of date, an older gentleman man decked out in a bishop’s ensemble. We can only wonder what those two chatted about on the limo ride over.
Fans took to Twitter to share their confusion. “How can I describe #NickiMinaj’s performance? Let’s say it’s a religious experience,” said one while another added “where’s the big bad wolf when you need him #nickiminaj?”
Nicki will take the stage tonight for the first time and premiere “Roman’s Holiday”, the next single from her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded sophomore album. She’s also up for one of the night’s biggest nods, Best New Artist where she’ll go head-to-head with J. Cole, The Band Perry, Bon Iver and Skrillex.
Earlier today, Nicki tweeted her love for singer Whitney Houston who died suddenly. “Jesus Christ, not Whitney Houston. Greatest of all time,” she wrote and then Twitpiced a photograph of Whitney with Michael Jackson.
Nicki Minaj was mentioned in this video above.
Ludacris knows how good it feels to win a Grammy.
The Atlanta-based rapper has three in his collection, and he’s hoping his eighth studio album, Ludaversal, brings him a few more. No release date has been set, but it’s expected sometime this year.
Luda won his first Grammy for his collaboration with Usher for 2004’s contagious single “Yeah.”
“Man, it was a great feeling. I’m happy to be working with Usher again on the Ludaversal album so we can come back and win yet another Grammy,” Luda told MTV News on Thursday. “My best Grammy experience was winning Best Rap Album for Release Therapy (which was released in 2006). I worked hard on that album specifically to win a Grammy, and I accomplished my goal. So no words can explain how great that felt. But we’re coming right back at ’em soon.”
His pick for Sunday night is clear: He wants to see Nicki Minaj to win Best New Artist. He worked with the MC on 2010’s “My Chick Bad,” off his Battle of the Sexes album.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Nicki Minaj. I love her. I’m glad I got a chance to work with her. I’m extremely proud of her,” he said. “She’s just scratching the surface of what she’s capable of. So Nicki: keep doing your thing, girl.”
The album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded its going to be released on Valentines Day She gives us a teaser thanks to MTV.Com for the hears up.
Barbz and Kenz a new Nicki Minaj album is closer than you think. Nicki’s Cash Money boss, Birdman, has revealed that the rapper is prepping the release of her Pink Friday follow-up for the first quarter in 2012, which presumably means that we’ll soon hear what the “Super Bass” songstress has been cooking up for the highly-anticipated release. There’s even some talk that Nicki, who is reportedly hard at work on her sophomore LP, could drop a new single by year’s end. Hold on to your pink wig.
“Nicki’s back in the studio, so we’re looking to drop Nicki in the first quarter,” Brian “Birdman” Williams said in an interview with Billboard.com. He went on to dish that Minaj could potentially drop new music sometime before year-end. “Maybe this year? I don’t know,” he added about releasing a single before 2012 strikes. “We’re really thinking it out. But she’s in the studio, and we’re looking real soon, because she’s ready to go and we’re ready to go with her.”
Earlier this month, BET reported that Minaj posted a blog post about how her alter-ego Roman would play a part in her new music. Although the post was later removed, the MC teased that Roman is out for revenge.
“Roman will be in rare form this time. You know why? Cuz he no longer gives a f—,” she wrote. “He has two more weeks in boarding school. We’re going to pick him up now. When he lands, he will address the nation in the form of music. He will also announce the date.”
Whether or not Roman will have anything to do with this record, Minaj’s Pink Friday producer Kane Beatz recently told MTV News, “We got one so far. She’s in L.A. goin’ crazy. … She just started, so she’s really picking her music and picking the songs. She’s real selective. She’ll pick all the beats before she even starts writing, so right now, we’re just getting music together, and it’s goin’ crazy right now.” [Source]
Britney Spears spoke with MTV News where she spoke very highly of Nicki Minaj. The duo are currently on tour together – be sure to get tickets if you haven’t already!
“I think she’s great,” Spears told MTV News of Minaj. “She’s a great artist in every way and I’m really happy for her.”
Minaj, who is nominated for three Video Music Awards, brings her own flair to the girl-power tour, adding her eccentric style, her fiery wigs and, of course, her signature beats.
“I think she has a distinct sound when she raps,” Spears said. “It really stands out and sets her apart from everyone else. I’m happy she’s able to be on tour with me because that’s just amazing.”
Last month, we caught up with Minaj just before she hit the road with the pop veteran, and she was ready to take that distinct sound to a whole new fanbase.
“I’m just trying to put more theater on that stage. So much to me is music, but it’s also about putting on a show, so that’s my goal: to truly put on a show and incorporate theater and dance,” Minaj said.
And if you’re lucky, you might just catch Spears and Minaj teaming up for a special performance of the remix for “Till the World Ends.”
“At the end of the show, the last song she comes on every once in awhile,” Spears said of Minaj joining her onstage. “Not every show, but it’s usually special when she does it.”
