![]() Count on Nicki Minaj to turn more than a few heads on the red carpet. In a new envelope-pushing look for her, the always outrageous Nicki channeled high fashion and religion in a strange way on tonight’s Grammy red carpet. Nicki rocked a deep red Versace cloak, covering more skin than she usually does, which offset her glowing fresh-faced makeup. Hip-hop’s Little Red Riding Hood was in the building. Even more eyebrow-raising was her choice of date, an older gentleman man decked out in a bishop’s ensemble. We can only wonder what those two chatted about on the limo ride over. Fans took to Twitter to share their confusion. “How can I describe #NickiMinaj’s performance? Let’s say it’s a religious experience,” said one while another added “where’s the big bad wolf when you need him #nickiminaj?” Nicki will take the stage tonight for the first time and premiere “Roman’s Holiday”, the next single from her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded sophomore album. She’s also up for one of the night’s biggest nods, Best New Artist where she’ll go head-to-head with J. Cole, The Band Perry, Bon Iver and Skrillex. Earlier today, Nicki tweeted her love for singer Whitney Houston who died suddenly. “Jesus Christ, not Whitney Houston. Greatest of all time,” she wrote and then Twitpiced a photograph of Whitney with Michael Jackson. ![]() Get More: Music News Nicki Minaj was mentioned in this video above. Ludacris knows how good it feels to win a Grammy. The Atlanta-based rapper has three in his collection, and he’s hoping his eighth studio album, Ludaversal, brings him a few more. No release date has been set, but it’s expected sometime this year. Luda won his first Grammy for his collaboration with Usher for 2004’s contagious single “Yeah.” “Man, it was a great feeling. I’m happy to be working with Usher again on the Ludaversal album so we can come back and win yet another Grammy,” Luda told MTV News on Thursday. “My best Grammy experience was winning Best Rap Album for Release Therapy (which was released in 2006). I worked hard on that album specifically to win a Grammy, and I accomplished my goal. So no words can explain how great that felt. But we’re coming right back at ’em soon.” His pick for Sunday night is clear: He wants to see Nicki Minaj to win Best New Artist. He worked with the MC on 2010’s “My Chick Bad,” off his Battle of the Sexes album. “I’m looking forward to seeing Nicki Minaj. I love her. I’m glad I got a chance to work with her. I’m extremely proud of her,” he said. “She’s just scratching the surface of what she’s capable of. So Nicki: keep doing your thing, girl.” Related Links; ![]() ![]() Madonna’s flurry of media activity last week sparks her re-entry at No. 8 on Billboard’s Social 50 chart, her highest rank ever on the year-old tally. Her video for “Give Me All Your Luvin'” premiered Feb. 3 on YouTube, while she performed at the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 5. For the tracking week, she earned a 479% increase in YouTube fans and a 685% leap in YouTube views. The Social 50 chart’s rankings are determined by activity monitored on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays. Madonna’s re-entry is even more compelling because she doesn’t have an official Twitter account — the only act on the chart without one. The diva’s Super Bowl halftime partner, Nicki Minaj (who is also featured on her “Give Me All Your Luvin'” single), jumps 10-3 on the Social tally this week. She too is experiencing a Bowl-related gain, but also still reeling from her current hit with David Guetta, “Turn Me On.” During the tracking week, Minaj saw a 27% jump in Facebook fans and a 10% charge in Twitter followers. Guetta also has a good week on the Social tally, as he rises to a new high of No. 4 (up four slots). As for the rest of the top 10 this week, Adele holds at No. 1, Katy Perry is up a position to No. 2 and Justin Bieber falls back one to No. 5. Shakira moves 2-6, Rihanna shifts 5-7 and Michael Jackson is steady at No. 9. Closing out the top 10 is LMFAO, who descends four to No. 10. Related Links; ![]() ![]()
