Just weeks after Chris Brown and Drake made headlines following a fight between their camps at New York nightclub W.i.P., Drake’s fellow Young Money hitmaker Nicki Minaj opened up about the incident in a radio interview.
Speaking to British radio host Tim Westwood, Minaj explained the conversation she had with Drizzy after the June 14 scuffle at the hotspot.
“I don’t approve of talented people doing things that aren’t conducive to an amazing career,” she said, according to BET. “I spoke to Drake, and I told him from the bottom of my heart how I felt. I’m like, ‘Baby, you are a superstar, and I need you to realize that.‘ ”

She went on to note that Drake is innocent in the headline-making incident, but did share the advice she gave him, which he might want to heed in the future if he wants to avoid this type of controversy. “He did nothing wrong, of course. Rumors are rumors, and that’s what it is,” she said. “Sometimes, you just need to go to bed. Go to the hotel and have an early nap. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
When Meek Mill stopped by “RapFix Live” earlier this week, he talked about the incident, which he had been linked to, and denied having any real ties. “People fight in the club every week, I just be there. The name’s gettin’ a little bigger, I guess they startin’ to mention me now,” he said, distancing himself from any of the drama which led to many partygoers being injured. “I’ve never been mentioned on none of those blogs or none of those shows or whatever, but things must be goin’ well over here.”
In other Minaj news, during the same interview with Westwood, the femcee addressed a controversy all her own. Asked about her relationship with New York City radio station Hot 97 following her canceled Summer Jam performance, she said, “I feel like it happened, and there is no animosity. I still love them over there at the station. They’ve helped me a lot as well. It’s not like we’re walking around being angry, we just wanted to prove that one point and that was that.”
