If you thought the new alcohol anthem “Bottoms Up” by Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj would be another club scene video, director Anthony Mandler had another thing up his sleeve. The video, shot in Miami, features a surreal “fun house” theme with sexy seductresses behind every wall. The only thing hotter than those dancers? The wardrobe on Miss Minaj.
Nicki was styled by VIBE’s own Fashion Director Niki Schwan, who gives the inside scoop on those outfit choices:
For the “Bottoms Up” video, there was a sexy Fun House theme. So for Nicki, I wanted to keep the look clean, but with a pop of color. Which describes her first look, which was essentially a black corset, bodysuit and a multi colored jeweled armor piece around her shoulders. We also accented the style with bright multi-toned Louboutins to offset the look.
For the second look, Nicki had to dance super seductively so she needed to be able to move, but of course she still needed to represent her signature fashion forward style. So for this look we again kept a black base, but we accessorized the look with a metal draping neck piece and elbow length sheer black gloves. This look had an overall S&M vibe, as was also reflected in the set.
